DESCRIPTION:
The original floor plan followed a conventional Korean apartment layout: a three-bedroom, two-bathroom unit in which every function was enclosed—the foyer, kitchen and dining area, utility room, and the master suite with its own dedicated bathroom.
While this arrangement offered privacy, it also made the apartment feel compartmentalized and smaller than it actually was. For the young newlywed clients, privacy was not a priority. Making the home look and feel as spacious as possible was.
This ambition led to a simple strategy: remove every non-essential enclosure that created visual clutter or interrupted the flow of space.
The wall enclosing the foyer was replaced with a low cabinet, maintaining a sense of arrival and guiding movement into the home while opening the view toward the living area.
The sliding doors and frame between the kitchen-dining area and living room were removed to create one uninterrupted communal space.
The wall separating the utility room from the kitchen was also eliminated, expanding the kitchen’s usable footprint.
In the private quarters, the partition between the master bedroom and the adjoining bedroom was removed to form a larger, more generous master suite.
The living room and kitchen were conceived as one continuous space extending from the South side of the apartment to the North. Uninterrupted ceiling and wall planes reinforce this sense of continuity, allowing the home to read as a larger, calmer whole. Frameless doors throughout further reduce visual interruption and preserve the clarity of the space.
